Hello! Welcome to my professional website!
I am currently an associate professor at the Department of Communication Studies, University of Alabama. I received my PhD from Annenberg School for Communication, University of Southern California in 2007 and was an assistant professor at the School of Communication Studies, University of Tennessee, Knoxville for two years before I joined the faculty of the University of Alabama in 2009.
My primary research interest lies at the intersection of culture and health communication. My research focuses on (1) how illness-specific stigma is culturally and socially constructed and (2) how culture affects different health communication processes such as social support and physician-patient communication. My secondary research interest is corporate social responsibility communication. My research has been published in journals such as Journal of Health Communication, Health Communication, Journal of International and Intercultural Communication, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, and Public Relations Review, among others.
I teach both undergraduate and graduate courses on health communication, organizational communication, human communication theory, and research methods.
I am the Finance Committee Chair of Chinese Communication Association. I also regularly serve as an ad-hoc reviewer for many communication journals and conferences.
